The driver takes the A10 north to the M25 at junction 25, runs clockwise to the M1 and heads up to junction 10. It avoids central London completely and is about 33 miles door to terminal.
The rail alternative is a trip into St Pancras, Thameslink to Luton Airport Parkway and then the DART shuttle, which is three legs with bags and usually over 80 minutes.

Coming back from Luton the driver follows M1 south to the M25, round to junction 25 and down the A10.
