By rail you would go King's Cross St Pancras (six Tube lines plus LNER, Thameslink and Eurostar) across to Custom House (Elizabeth line and the DLR), then a 5-minute walk at the far end. The catch is that it is fine with one bag and awkward if you are carrying exhibition kit. Door to door by road is about 30 min, or 50 min when the roads are full, with no changes, no stairs and no queue at the barrier. It is a fair fight on the way there. On the way back, when several thousand people want the same platform, it stops being one.
The usual line from King's Cross is the A501 then the A5200, then A13 then Connaught Bridge and Western Gateway at the end. Roughly 10.0 miles, and the timing swings with the hour rather than the route: 30 min clear, 50 min loaded.

Parking at ExCeL London is limited and the surrounding streets are metered or permit-only, so self-driving usually costs more in time than the fare saves. Being dropped at the door and collected at an agreed point removes the whole problem.
Doors are usually an hour before the event. Working back, that means leaving King's Cross around 50 min plus that hour on a busy night - and booking the return at the same time, because the road out is slower than the road in.
