From E14 the driver takes Aspen Way east and crosses the Lower Lea to Silvertown. It is so short that most of your time is spent at the airport, not on the road.
The DLR also runs from Canary Wharf to the airport with a change, and works well for one person with a small bag. The car suits executives with luggage, early flights and teams travelling together.
By public transport: DLR from Canary Wharf, changing at Poplar or Canning Town, about 20–30 min. The catch is a change and busy trains at rush hour. A car does the whole trip door to door in about 10 min, or 20 min when the roads are full, with your bags in the boot.
Out of Canary Wharf (E14) the route runs along Aspen Way and the Lower Lea Crossing to Silvertown. Coming back from London City the driver follows Silvertown Way and Aspen Way back to E14. That is about 4 miles: reckon 10 min off-peak and 20 min when Aspen Way at rush hour is busy.
London City is small and quick. Your driver meets you just outside arrivals with a name board, usually within minutes of you leaving the aircraft.
London City arrivals are quick, and your driver waits just outside. You can be back at your desk in E14 within about half an hour of landing.
London City only needs you there about an hour before most flights, and the drive is short, so a pickup 75–90 minutes before departure is usually enough.
