The public-transport version starts at Uxbridge (the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines) and finishes at Esher (National Rail), with a 8-minute walk at the far end. The catch is that it is a short walk but a thin evening service. Door to door by road is about 40 min, or 55 min when the roads are full, with no changes, no stairs and no queue at the barrier. It is a fair fight on the way there. On the way back, when several thousand people want the same platform, it stops being one.
Out of Uxbridge (UB8, UB9, UB10) the driver picks up the A40 then the A4020 then the A408, joining M25 J10, then A3 and A307 Portsmouth Road for the run-in. That is about 18.4 miles. Reckon 40 min off-peak and 55 min if you are crossing town at the wrong moment.

Driving yourself to Sandown Park Racecourse means joining the same single-file exit as everyone else, and the car parks empty in one slow wave rather than continuously. Being dropped at the door and collected at an agreed point removes the whole problem.
Gates open well before the first race and the roads in are single-file near the course. Leaving Uxbridge about 55 min ahead of when you want to be through the turnstile is the timing that holds up.
