The A5 Edgware Road starts right beside Paddington, so the driver can be heading north within minutes. At Staples Corner the M1 takes over and runs all the way to junction 10.

Out of Paddington (W2) the route runs north up the A5 Edgware Road to the M1 at Staples Corner. Coming back from Luton the driver follows the M1 south to Staples Corner and down the Edgware Road. That is about 33 miles: reckon 50 min off-peak and 80 min when the Edgware Road and the M1 at Brent Cross is busy.
